Slim is a wonderfully sweet guy who loves playing with toys and has never met a stranger. He is a big snuggler! He has previous ligament injuries to both rear legs, so a home without a lot of stairs would be best for this boy. Slim cannot live with small dogs.

Earle is a Labrador trapped in a greyhound body!  This boy plays hard.  He loves toys and will even toss them in the air to play catch all by himself.  He may be too much boy for small children, but would love some older kids to play with.  He snorts when he’s happy!  He walks like a gentleman on leash and is easy to crate.  He also gives face washing kisses.  For an active family, he would be a perfect choice. This boy has been waiting a long time to find his forever home - could it be you he has been waiting for?

Trent is a tall, lean, and handsome boy.  He likes toys, is easy going and snuggly.  He gives gentle kisses and should fit in well in any family situation.

This big boy is quite playful and energetic. He jumps to get attention, so might be too much for small children. Harvey was vocal in his crate, and may not be a good choice for apartment or condo living. He loved toys! He does need some work on a leash.

Rosie is a gentle girl who enjoyed hugs and learning about toys. She would probably be a lap dog if allowed, and did jump to give gentle kisses. She is tolerant and walks well on a leash.

Star is a beautiful little girl who loves affection. She is happy and energetic and wants to say hi to everyone who crosses her path!

Ghost is a big, handsome boy who is very happy and energetic. Ghost needs a little work on his leash-walking skills, and does jump a bit when excited. During his evaluation his tail never stopped wagging, and he enjoyed playing with toys. Ghost would do well as an only hound.

Dreamer is a laid-back boy who walks very well on a leash. He is gentle and tolerant, and should get along with people of all ages.

Kool is a strong boy on a leash, and is very curious about his surroundings. He enjoys toys, but does give them up when asked. He is a tolerant boy who was a bit aloof and enjoyed ear rubs.

MooMoo is a beautiful girl who was laid back and gentle. She was somewhat shy initially, but quickly warmed up for affection. She is a tolerant girl who shows some interest in toys and walks well on a leash.

Jack has quickly settled into his foster home. He is a very sweet and quiet but not shy boy. He has been a perfect houseguest with lovely manners. He crates easily and eats well. He can sit though does not know what he is doing yet, and rumor has it that he fetches! He is just learning to get in touch with his silly side, and he gives kisses. Jack has a broken leg that healed without medical care, so he he stands like a supermodel with a rather jaunty angle on his right front leg. His ambulation is fine, but he should never run full out again. He is good with other dogs but is confident enough to be an only hound as well. Jack is small dog OK, as he lived with a rat terrier and a jack russell terrier in Florida, and he is cat-safe as well. He is a perfect greyhound companion and his foster family adores him already!

Rodey is a handsome boy who is playful, affectionate, and happy. He could use a little help on a leash, but is gentle and tolerant. He preferred to be glued to the evaluator’s side. Rodey enjoys toys – especially those that squeak!

Sally is a petite little girl who is affectionate, gentle, and enjoys giving kisses. She does gently jump to give hugs, and showed some interest in toys. This little girl should adapt well to all situations.

Last fall, Tracker retired early from the Dubuque Racetrack after sustaining a leg injury. After a few months of healing he is ready to find his forever home! He still has a slight limp, which will improve with routine walking exercise. While at the vet, Tracker scaled a 5-foot concrete fence twice because another greyhound was removed from his vision. Therefore, he will require another greyhound housemate and, unless he is leash-walked, a yard with a 6-foot fence. He does well in his crate and he enjoys toys.

Chase would be a good choice for a family with active kids. He is curious, interested in his surroundings, and likes toys. He showed no possessiveness and readily gave up the squeaky toy when asked.

New arrival we're still learning about!

This little girl was a bit nervous and lacking in confidence. She may be happiest with another hound in the house and a patient owner who will help her become more outgoing and comfortable.

Her name fits! From her polka-dotted ears to her outgoing personality, she should fit in well with any family situation. She picked up a toy, but didn’t really have much interest in play.

Peanut was a bit hesitant about his evaluation.  He is gentle, gives kisses and has a mohawk!  He may need a little work on his socialization and some patience to help him find his way. Though Peanut tested as cat-safe, he is a little too interested in small dogs to be able to live with them. 

Diva is extremely timid.  She spent most of the evaluation staying as far away from the volunteers as possible.  She was uncomfortable with handling and would not be a good choice for a family with small children.  Her owner should understand that it may take some time and work for her to be a well-adjusted member of the family. Diva tested as cat-safe and gets along well with small dogs. 

Monk does not have the typical greyhound needlenose—his is Roman!  He is a happy, social boy who seems to prefer the company of women.  He has a beautiful thick coat and will probably shed more than the average greyhound.

Toffee may be an excellent candidate for obedience school and perhaps therapy dog training.  She responded well to her name, walked right next to the evaluator and was a confident, social girl. 

Wings is a smiler!  He is happy and plays with toys by pouncing on them and gives them up nicely when asked.  He does jump so may be better in a home with older children.

Holly is a little bitty girl.  She is easy to handle, likes toys and people.  She should fit in well in just about any family situation.

Although he was a bit unsure during his evaluation, he appears to be a happy boy.  He will need a patient owner to help him with his confidence and seemed to prefer the company of men over women.

Lana is a beautiful, petite black girl.  She is very young and jumps when she’s excited.  When playing with toys, she does air snaps.  She is a happy, sweet girl.

King would be an awesome meeter and greeter and ambassador for the greyhound breed.  He has a helicopter tail when he’s excited.  He is playful and social and a real people dog.

Time plays with toys by shaking them like crazy.  She will give the toy up nicely when asked.  She is easy-going and gentle and should fit in just about anywhere.

Rich is energetic and a jumper.  He showed interest in toys but was happy to give them up when asked.  He also gives gentle kisses.

Trudy is a smiler!  She is very social, likes people, and freely gives kisses.  She is an all-around good girl and should fit in just about anywhere -- however, she needs to live with another greyhound companion.

Red is a very social, outgoing greyhound who has the greyhound lean down pat!  He likes people and should fit in to just about any family situation.

Fannie has a major mohawk from the base of her skull down her whole neck!  Although she appeared to be a bit timid, she still showed some affection. Given time and a patient owner, she should become a happy, well-adjusted girl.

Prince loves people and affection.  He readily seeks out hugs and gives kisses in return.  Because he jumps when playing, he may be too much boy for small children.

Alice is an affectionate, social and happy girl.  She likes toys and would be a good choice for just about any family situation.  She is everything a well-adjusted, socialized greyhound should be!

Hurley is on the smaller side for a male greyhound.  He was interested in his surroundings and liked being close to people.  He showed no interest in toys and crates easily.  He should fit in well in just about any situation.

Although Moira is sweet and affectionate, she is a bit timid and could use some work on her socialization.  Due to her submissive nature, she may be happiest in a home with older children and a family who will help her come out of her shell.

Lucky is also a smiler!  He is a happy, easy-going greyhound.  He had no interest in toys and was a bit afraid of them.  He should be a good fit for any family.

Emmie is extremely timid and may be happiest in a home with older children.  Unfortunately, she tested positive for heartworm and will need to be kept calm and quiet during her treatment.  She was difficult to walk on leash because she was so afraid.

Kane is a gentle affectionate boy who enjoys being hugged.  He showed no interest in toys, preferring to spend his time with people. Though Kane tested as cat safe, he is a little bit too interested in small dogs to able to live with them. 

Bee is a bit of the independent type.  She is outgoing and likes toys.  She was unhappy about having her tail pulled and her teeth checked, so may do better in a home with older children.

New arrival we're still learning about!

Ming gives sweet, gentle kisses.  She is a clingy kind of hound and seemed to prefer women over men.  She was a bit submissive and will need some work on socialization.

Paw was in an unknown accident that left extensive scarring on her back, but it allowed her to bypass the racetrack and come straight to GO to find a new home! She will be limited to leash walking, no running, until the scarring is fully healed over. She is somewhat standoffish and not real affectionate yet -- this little girl needs a patient and loving owner who will help her work on her confidence. 

Grace is recovering from an injured right rear hock.  No surgery was required and she walks with a slight limp.  Short walks and minimal stairs would be best for this girl.  She was lacking in confidence and avoided eye contact.  When called, though, she did come for pets.  She will need a patient owner to help her with socialization.
