8/18/17 UPDATE:

Wow it has been a rough few months! Brazos is finally enjoying life in his Medical Foster Home with one of our fabulous volunteer foster families.

Dr. Barker says "we just had Brazos' bloodwork and x-rays done. He is doing extremely well, his bloodwork is perfect. He is currently off all pain medications. The damage in his bones has improved but is not resolved. We will continue him on the anti-fungals and re-xray in 4-6 months."

We would like to thank our donors for their love and financial support of Brazos during this trying time.

Brazos3/11/17 UPDATE:

Brazos has a tentative diagnosis of coccidiomycosis, which may respond to aggressive therapy of anti-fungal medication. More tests have already been sent out to confirm the course of treatment, but until we receive more test results he is back in his foster home receiving his medicine and the highest quality of care and love. Thanks to everyone who has donated to help pay for his ER visit and testing... at this point we have received roughly what his ER visit cost, which is very helpful. He still has ongoing costs for medication and testing, so if you have any spare change left, Brazos and GO would greatly appreciate any help you can provide. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Slatex Brazos has had a tough time since he came into the Greyhounds Only adoption program over a year ago. He arrived with an indolent ulcer in his eye, which was treated successfully, and eventually healed. Just when we thought he was ready to leave his loving foster home, he started to limp. What was determined at the time was that he had a bone infection that had uniquely manifested itself in three places in his body.

He has been on antibiotics for months and he was responding well to the medication until today (3/8/17). Sadly, this morning he took a turn for the worse and due to his pain, he was admitted to the ER at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine to be stabilized and hopefully diagnosed.

They are currently stumped because his symptoms are so unusual. It is not clear cut what is wrong with Brazos. The good news is his lungs are clear. He is on meds and spending the night in the ER. Tomorrow they will do a core biopsy of his leg to hopefully determine what his diagnosis is. We hope it is an infection that can be treated successfully.

Needless to say, Brazos needs all of our good wishes and some of our money too!

His treatment is yet to be determined, but whatever it is, this visit alone is costly for Greyhounds Only. Brazos is a wonderful boy who has been loved deeply in his foster home while undergoing treatment, and we just want to get him back on the road to recovery so he can finally be adopted. Please consider helping and sharing his story. The cost of his care has far exceeded the average that we spend on each greyhound, and is into the thousands.

Brazos desperately needs your help right now. Can you help us continue to provide the best care for Brazos? If so, please consider donating to Greyhounds Only. Thank you so much!
