The board held a regular meeting for four and a half hours on March 27, 2011. Treasurer Lauren Sicherman presented her report, and also offered a revised 2011 budget for approval, which passed unanimously. Among other things, the board discussed and approved a recommended protocol for the processing of new arrivals with respect to the application of anti-flea and anti-tick medication. In addition, the board discussed and approved a basic plan for a GO picnic during the summer of 2011 to be coordinated by Jackie Epstein. The board discussed the potential use of website links and mobile applications for fundraising, as well as the possibility of encouraging members to remember GO in wedding "gift" registries. It was determined that GO Vice President Sue Gaiser should be the GO board representative on facebook, with authority to monitor and edit content on the site as appropriate in the best interests of GO. The board also discussed feedback and communication with volunteers. In addition, Sue proposed adding a new class for adoptive families with children, and plans to provide the board with an outline of class material at the next meeting. President Barbara Karant initiated a discussion of gambling-related legislation pending in Florida that, if passed, would likely result in the closure of several Florida greyhound tracks within months. The result would be an unprecedented emergency in the greyhound rescue community nationwide, with potentially thousands of hounds in need of rescue. The board is monitoring the situation.
