Board Meeting Minutes

The board held a regular meeting for four and a half hours on March 27, 2011. Treasurer Lauren Sicherman presented her report, and also offered a revised 2011 budget for approval, which passed unanimously. Among other things, the board discussed and approved a recommended protocol for the processing of new arrivals with respect to the application of anti-flea and anti-tick medication. In addition, the board discussed and approved a basic plan for a GO picnic during the summer of 2011 to be coordinated by Jackie Epstein. The board discussed the potential use of website links and mobile applications for fundraising, as well as the possibility of encouraging members to remember GO in wedding "gift" registries. It was determined that GO Vice President Sue Gaiser should be the GO board representative on facebook, with authority to monitor and edit content on the site as appropriate in the best interests of GO. The board also discussed feedback and communication with volunteers. In addition, Sue proposed adding a new class for adoptive families with children, and plans to provide the board with an outline of class material at the next meeting.  President Barbara Karant initiated a discussion of gambling-related legislation pending in Florida that, if passed, would likely result in the closure of several Florida greyhound tracks within months. The result would be an unprecedented emergency in the greyhound rescue community nationwide, with potentially thousands of hounds in need of rescue. The board is monitoring the situation.

At its January regular meeting, Treasurer Lauren Sicherman presented her report on current financials, as well as a look back at 2010 finances and a preliminary budget for 2011, which the board discussed in detail. Additionally, Lauren reported that, effective January 2011, GO will be required to file sales tax returns on a monthly basis. Among other business, Sue Gaiser reported on final plans for the upcoming annual board meeting and ACT seminar, and the board continued its discussion on parameters for use of the GO email list. Bob Petrovic previewed the 2011 reunion, particularly the brand-new location at the DuPage County fairground. This new location features 20,000 square feet of space, a full kitchen, and parking for 900 cars. Finally, the board discussed at length the appropriate protocol for newly-arrived hounds with respect to bathing and application of anti-flea/anti-tick medication.
At the Board's October meeting, Treasurer Lauren Sicherman presented her report, which included an explanation of the most recent financials and the status of tax returns and other governmental filings.  Vice President Sue Gaiser lead a discussion of the upcoming Annual Board Meeting and ACT Seminar.   The Board also discussed, among other matters, the use of the GO e-list, the expected launch of the newly-designed website after Thanksgiving, and approved a vaccine protocol for dogs taken into the program, as recommended by Dr. Kathi Berman.
The Board met for four hours on September 26, 2010. Treasurer Lauren Sicherman gave a report on GO's financial position, and made particular note of the positive impact of Kennel Run days, and the sponsorship donations associated with Slim's Haul. The Board discussed various new business items, including the vaccine protocol for dogs accepted into the GO program. Among other old business items, Sue Gaiser reported to the Board on her investigation of the greyhound memorabilia opportunity, Lauren Sicherman reported on the status of the website redesign, and Linda Hay reported that she is preparing a standard informational protocol for use at Meet & Greets.
