In
memory of Val
Greyhounds
Only is able, on occasion to take in what we call a "Special
Needs Hound",
one that requires extraordinary expense due to injury or illness. One
of the first hounds we introduced you to was Val. He became our "poster
child" for the special needs hounds in our program. Sadly, he passed away
on April 23rd, 2010 - certainly too soon for all of his many fans.
Sue Gaiser
was the two-legged human who was privileged to live with Val
from his diagnosis until his untimely passing. Our thanks and
sorrows go to her for giving this beautiful hound a happy life.

I’ve
asked “Mom” to write this last message
from me to you! Even from The Rainbow Bridge, she knows
my thoughts! I don’t want you to be sad for very
long even though I know you will miss me. I want to
you to celebrate the life that I was able to have because
of the Greyhounds Only family and friends. When others
gave up on me, you all came to my rescue in my darkest
hours. With your help and support, I overcame my illness.
You watched me for four years as “Mom” dressed
me up for holidays and gave you regular updates on
my successes. You saw me enjoy the life I had been
so graciously given. You cheered me on and I knew you
were there. Now, I would like to ask you one more thing.
While I have no other earthly needs, my girl friends,
Sis, Memory and Kit Kat are dealing with some serious
issues. I know that you can make their lives as happy
and healthy as mine. You’ve never let me down.
So my legacy as the “hound in need” poster
boy lives on, please consider making a donation in
my name to help these special girls.
Thank
you for everything! I’ll be waiting for all of
you on the other side.
Love,
Val

Meet
my new girl friend, Blue Sky "Sis"! She came
to Greyhounds Only in an unusual way. Her trainer at
Dairyland found her in her crate, unable to stand or
walk. She even seemed to be blind at one point. The
first thought was a stroke or spinal embolism. Dr.
Jenifer Barker at Dairyland urgently contacted Greyhounds
Only, and the kennel staff saw to it that she was immediately
transported to Chicago Veterinary Emergency Services
for emergency, life-saving care. Sis initially improved
and was transferred to Family Pet in Chicago, where
Dr. Kathi Berman cared for her until Sis relapsed.
She was then rushed her to the specialists, Dr. Barnes
and Dr. Mercier, my neurologists at VCA Aurora. Within
a few days and after many tests, Sis started to make
improvement and was able to walk and see again. She
was subsequently diagnosed with a non-contagious form
of meningitis, for which she receives ongoing treatment.
She was able to go in to a foster home with her Vet
Tech "Mom", where she will continue her recovery.
Now, she's alive and thriving because of the wonderful
people that saved me!
Sis'
vet bills are over $4,000.00 and climbing. Could
you find it in your heart to help Sis, the way you
helped me!
Love,
Val

Over
the last year the "Hound in Need" page has
been VERY busy. I'm so happy to say that 2009 has been
much easier on my buddies. Tammy, Kit and Polar have
all been adopted and are truly enjoying retirement
with their special families. I want to thank you for
supporting them during their time of need! You're just
GREYT!
While currently there are no urgent medical needs threatening my friends, there
is a bigger problem looming. It's called the economy. So far this year, Greyhounds
Only has accepted back in to the program 16 dogs, due largely to loss of jobs
for their two leggeds. It's so sad! But, as always you GO people come to the
rescue. Most of the hounds returned need updated medical exams, dentals and
vaccinations. So, while this is not our normal "hound in need" request,
your continuing support is still needed to off set the additional and unexpected
costs of re-homing these innocent friends of mine. Please, help in any way
you can!
Love,
Val

Hi everyone! It's me again. Thanks for checking
in on me! I've been having the best time with the
beautiful weather, playing in the yard and sunning
on the patio. Life is GRAND!
Guess what????? My second anniversary is right around
the corner. I'm counting down the days to June 20th,
when I will have been seizure free for two whole
years. Last year, you rocked my world by donating over $8,300.00 in honor of
my first year's success. I know it sounds selfish to try and top that, but I'm
going to ask anyway if you could consider contributing, in my name for the "hound
in need" program. You already know that families are in trouble and every
gift you make helps Greyhounds Only continue to support hounds that are sick,
injured or disrupted.
I know we can shine in '09!

Hi
everyone! It’s me, Val sharing the luck of the
Irish with you! Where does Mom get these silly ear things?
My luck and good health is still holding out. I have
been seizure free now for one year and nine months! And
a big thank you goes out to all of you that have continued
to support me and my “special needs” buddies!
Kit found her pot of gold this week! She has been adopted
by her foster family and everyone is beaming!
Speaking
of GOLD, I have a new idea to help Greyhounds Only
find needed funds without you writing
a check. This
fund raiser is called GO for the Gold! I’ll let
Mom tell you the rest!
VAL
AND HIS FRIENDS NEED YOU!!!
Please
read on to find out how you can help,
without costing you a single penny…..
With
gold at the highest value ever, it’s time
to cash in on those unwanted, mismatched or broken pieces
of jewelry you have stored. Maybe you have something
from a previous relationship. Wouldn’t it feel “greyt” to
see our precious hounds benefit from something you’ll
NEVER wear again?
"
Got Gold?" Company, featuring Therese and Roman
Lewis, has been paying out HUNDREDS, even THOUSANDS of
dollars in cash, to happy participants. They
consistently pay up to DOUBLE or more than their
competitors.
After
you have gathered your unwanted gold items there will
be several ways for you to participate
in GO for
the GOLD to support Greyhounds Only and the hounds
we rescue and adopt! First, you can donate 100%
of the value
directly to GO. Or, if you’d like to have a few
friends bring gold to your home or office, like I did,
you can retain the value of your personal gold and donate
the 10% host cash bonus to GO. With only six people I
was able to give GO $330.00 and it didn’t
affect my budget!
Don’t have any gold of your own? Ask your friends,
neighbors, family and co-workers if they have anything
they would like to contribute for this “greyt” cause!
Tax donation letters will be sent to every donor
for the total dollar value.
I
have found the folks at “Got Gold?” to
be completely honest and trustworthy. This could
be the pot of gold at the end of Greyhound Only’s
beautiful rainbow! For more information and any
questions, please
contact me at GreytGOFoster@comcast.net.
No questions, then mail your gold with appropriate
insurance to: Greyhounds Only, Inc.,
335 E. Geneva Road, #173, Carol Stream, IL, 60188.
We will take of the rest and you will have painlessly
donated
to our precious pups!
So,
for Val and all of our other hounds, let’s
all GO FOR THE GOLD!

HO, HO, HO! It's that time of year
again! The time when you two leggeds do some really silly
and fun things. What are you thinking.... a tree in the
living room? Do you actually think that is the smartest
idea? And, these antlers....Mom, really? But truly, at
this time of year there is a special feeling in our house.
There are lots of hugs and kisses from friends that we
don't see often. There are the wonderful smells from
the kitchen. The feeling of love and joy is everywhere!
I want to wish you all a very special holiday season
and a prosperous 2009. It looks like Greyhounds Only
will adopt nearly 250 hounds this year! I am so grateful
that you rescued me and all my buddies. This year you
have been especially supportive of my "special needs" friends,
Oreck, Hillary, Squiggie, Kit and most recently, Polar
and Tammy! You haven't let us down, no matter our problem!
While you celebrate the season, please keep in mind the
Greyhounds that haven't found a home yet. Your continued
support to Greyhounds Only makes it Christmas all year
round to a hound waiting to come home, holidays or not!
Happy Holidays!
Love,
Val
11/26/08

It's that time again when my feet feel
tingly, and strange brown things crunch between my toes
when I go outside. The crisp air creates the perfect
conditions for a good run around the yard! Inside there
are smells that are familiar, but seem to be unique to
this cycle of the world. Mom says that it's cinnamon,
apples, pumpkins, sweet potatoes and turkey. Yep, it's
time to give thanks for the many blessings we have received
this year! Mom said that there a lot of two leggeds that
are finding it hard to think of something to be thankful
for. Here's my list in no particular order!
Soft pillows
Many, many people love me!
Hugs and kisses are FREE
I am alive!
YOU saved my life!
Please, take some time with your hounds and know that
they are thankful for you!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Love,
Val

See Val jump! See Mom smile! See us celebrating
the huge success of the Val Gives Back Fund! You
have NEVER let me down. My fund nearly doubled the
goal we set in July!
The
GRAND total raised is
....$8,300.00!!!!!!
Your
generosity has helped off set many of the unexpected
emergencies Greyhounds Only experienced this
summer.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! |

Hi
everyone! It's me...Val! I can't tell you how happy
I am that my fund raiser has been so successful!
You two leggeds are GREYT! You probably know by now that
we have already exceeded our original goal. However,
Greyhounds Only did not expect the unfortunate "extra" costs
for Squiggy, Hillary, Oreck, Bud, Marina and several
others. This summer alone GO has spent well over $10,000.00
to help my Greyhound buddies get well.
I'm proposing that we keep the ball rolling until my
birthday in September. If you would be so kind as to
consider donating $1.00 for every month that I have seizure
free (August 20th is 14 months) or a $5.00 donation to
celebrate my 5th birthday in September, we will be that
much closer to paying the expensive Vet bills for the
unexpected hounds in need.
Also, have you seen the Corvette up for auction? I would
love to take a ride in that! Buy a ticket or two, now!!!
Greyhounds Only tries so hard to help any hound in need.
Please....HELP!
Thank you!
Love always,
Val
6/15/08
Here are two of the many reasons why
my fund, Val Gives Back is so important! Greyhounds Only
is willing
to help other special hounds like me. Please help!
In
May Greyhounds Only learned that these pups' Dad had
passed away in Springfield, IL. GO called every shelter
in that area to locate them, with no luck! Two weeks
later GO was contacted by REGAP that they had Hillary
(nearly 10) and Squiggie (just 9), and would transport
them up north to us! Aren't they GREYT!!!! "The
kids" were placed immediately in to a foster home
together. They were extremely frail and obviously sad
from their loss. Just a week later Squiggie was vomiting
and pooping blood. He was rushed to the Emergency Vet.
His symptoms seemed dire, so Hillary was moved to a foster
home closer to the Vet, just in case Squiggie's situation
worsened, she could go be with him.
Squiggie was given a full regimen of tests, including
an Ultra sound, over the several days he was there. Fortunately,
our worse fear, cancer was eliminated. We are still waiting
for final test results for adrenal and pancreatic issues.
In the meantime, he his back with his foster Mom on many
medications and a restricted diet. Hillary will rejoin
him once he's over the crisis. He is expected to make
a full and healthy recovery. However, his Vet bill was
$2500.00!
Please, consider donating to Val's Fund to help offset
this and many other unexpected expenses that Greyhounds
Only gladly pays to "save one....or two at a time"!
Now, listen to this sad story of the lovely
Ms. Oreck.
Oreck got injured somehow at a kennel. No one knows how
it happened. It was a "V" shaped wound about
3 to 4 inches wide and about 4 inches long. Ouch! The
Dr. sewed it up as best he could and put two tubes in
it to drain extra fluid and infection. When the drain
was removed, the top drain hole tore down the middle
of the "V" shape wound. She had to go to the
Emergency Vet where the Dr. had to remove all the skin
between that "V" shape because there wasn't
enough skin to hold the stitches. It became necessary
to pack the wound and treat it as an open wound. Her
skin is starting to grow together a little bit at the
time, but the muscle underneath isn't yet healing as
it should. Oreck may need a skin graft to help close
the wound.
Over the last few months Oreck had to be seen by the
Vet for bandage changes every day for a week, then every
other day for two weeks, then every 3-4 days for two
weeks and has now graduated to once every two weeks at
the Vet, with bandage changes being done in between by
her foster family. Her foster family is the BEST!
Ms.
Oreck has to stay quiet, because her wound is over
the muscle on her upper right front leg. It is in
a place
that is impossible to bandage. She has had loops
with thread like material put on either side of the
wound.
Then it is packed with sponges and a ribbon like
gauze is crisscrossed over the sponge bandage and through
those loops that are stitched to her leg. Too much
activity
would either prevent or inhibit the wound from healing,
so Oreck has to stay quiet in her kennel, except
for
potty time, on a leash. So far, she doesn't mind
her crate, but you can tell that she is anxious to
get
out and play with her "foster" brothers and
sisters.
Oreck wears a soft Elizabethan Collar around her neck
that has been sewn to fit close to her body because
she was scratching at the wound with her rear leg.
Over that "E" Collar
she wears a T- shirt so that she cannot get at the
wound.
Unfortunately, Oreck has another problem. Her spay
did not heal right and she has a hernia that will need
to
be fixed. The Dr. will fix that when he does the skin
graft.
GO has already received the bill for the original suture,
bur the remaining bills have yet to be received. It
looks like her bills will total $2,500.00, if not more.
Oreck needs your thoughts, prayers and support. Please,
consider donating to "Val Gives Back" in
Ms. Oreck's name.
Thank
you for reading about my friends. Please consider supporting
them like you have supported me. Just go to the Val
Gives Back page
to donate!
Love,
Val

Happy
Spring everyone...it's me,
Val! I know it's been a long time since you've heard
from me,
but "Mom" has had some
pretty serious stuff to take
care of and I don't
type very well.
I
have some really exciting news! I'm in charge
of a fundraiser for all my Greyhound buddies
waiting for their forever homes! It's called, "Val
Gives Back",
just like American Idol! I'm
a rock star! On June 20th,
2008 I will have
gone one
whole year without a single
seizure episode. My meds are
perfect and I'm feeling FINE!!!
Dr. Barnes
said that
we could only hope for 2-3
months between events. I'm
a record breaker, too!
This
is how it's going to work! In
honor of Mom's parents that
passed this year
and in celebration of my
wellness, she is going to match $1.00, up to
$1,200.00 for every $3.00
that you donate to the "Val Gives Back" fund.
Do the math! That's $4,800.00
to help offset the increased expenses
Greyhounds
Only has incurred this year!
Do you know that every Greyhound that is
adopted actually costs Greyhounds
Only over
$450.00. That's twice the
adoption fee! How do they do it? DONATIONS!!!!!
I
know that times may be
tough for some of you two leggeds, but I
have some ideas to raise the cash! (Hey....
that's
my sister's name, Cash, now Cassie!)
-
Consider
donating part of your profit
from that Garage Sale you
have planned
-
Let
the kids set up a stand to sell Lemonade
-
Have
your Scout Troup/Club take this
on as a Challenge to raise $$$$$$.
Maybe
a Car Wash?
-
Put
a jar
on your
desk at
work
-
Ask
your friends
and relatives
that love
your dog/s
to contribute
-
Eat
out one
less time
a month
and send
the unspent
$$$$$$$
-
Be
creative and
think of
ways to
send something
to help
my buddies
at the
kennel
Please,
see the Val
Gives Back page for how you
can donate to my new fund.
The
deadline to donate to "Val Gives Back" is
September 3rd, 2008, my 5th birthday!
I
know we can do this! You took care of me, now let's
take care of the rest of them!
Love,
Val

I know that I told you love was in the
air with my last insert. Now I know for sure that it
exists!
I spent Sunday afternoon, February 24th with two of my
siblings, Dino and Billy! Dino and I were left behind
in November of 2005 when our trainer moved his operation
to Florida. Billy Kerwin, Dana Cherry and Swin Cash went
south to race some more! Our friend, Linda Cliffel from
CIGA kept a good eye on our siblings. Billy was released
for adoption last March and Linda got him up here to
join us! Cash, now known as Cassie was adopted recently
through Northern Lights in Minnesota. Dana Cherry, the
best racer of the litter is now on a farm and will be
bred. Someday we hope that all of us will have a chance
to be reunited. For now, here are us boys! From left
to right we are, Dino, Val and Billy! Aren't we cute?
Please remember to volunteer for The Chicagoland Pet
Show coming March 14th-16th at Arlington Park. This is
the biggest Greyhounds Only event where new folks "pick" their
breed to adopt. We need all of you to come and preach
the Greyhound Gospel. Do it for me!
Love always,
Val

Love
is ALWAYS in the air at Greyhounds Only! It's
that special time that you four leggeds express
how much you "love" each other. My
experience is that love is what makes Greyhounds
Only the special organization that it is!
When I came to Greyhounds Only in November of 2006, I had never been
loved by my owner/trainer at the track. Since I didn't make him any money,
I was sent away. Kristen, the GO Kennel Coordinator was the first one
who truly loved me, and still does! She saw my torn foot and made sure
that I got special attention. I went to several foster homes that loved
me like their very own. Then, my seizures started. I thought I would
never be loved again! I was wrong! I met "Mom". I saw love
in her eyes when Kristen delivered me to her. She said I could live with
her even though I was so sick. I was safe and loved!
My story is one of fear, pain, love, hope and success! I have overcome
my illness because of the love of many, YOU that have supported me for
so long. I have been seizure free since June 20, 2007, that's nearly
8 months! I'm a miracle of LOVE, hope and a bit of science!
My Greyhound friends need you to love them, too! You can show your love
in many different ways. You can foster, go to meet & greets,
help at the kennel, sew toys to raise money or just send donations
to help those of us that need your LOVE and support!
We can't eat chocolate, go out for special dinners or enjoy roses, but
we need you to love us however you can!
All any of us need is LOVE! YOU have it! Spread it!!!!!
Love, Val

Happy
2008 everyone! It's me, Val! Even though 2007 has
been a less than perfect year for my pack, it's
been a successful turning point for me! As of December
20th, 2007 I have been completely seizure free
for SIX months.......not one episode! Mom knocks
on wood every time she says it! It seems that it
just took some time to get my medication balanced
properly to maintain the events and still let me
live a happy, healthy life. I'm VERY happy now!
I bounce and play just like my room mates. I've
even chased a kitty or two recently.
As I always say, all of you helped support me during my darkest times. The sun
has come out for me, because of you! There are other of my Greyhound friends
that need your support. Please, check out the web site and see who might need
you, now! There are several that you could "support" until their issues
are resolved. All you have to do is choose a "special" hound and contribute
to their wellness.
Welcome in 2008 by contributing to Greyhounds Only's Hounds in Need! Then sit
back and watch the miracles happen!
Happy New Year to all my friends,
Val |

As
always, Mom informs me of these special times.
It is Thanksgiving! It is a time to look at what
we all have and why we need to be grateful! Many
of you have had hard times and losses, like our
family. While this has been a very hard year
for our family, we are looking forward to better,
happier times! So should you! Greyhounds Only
has not only rescued me, but in 2007 has adopted
nearly 200 hounds, and counting!
Please, take time to reflect on what has been your gift/s this year! Mine is
that I have been seizure free for five months! Here's "me" looking
forward to a healthier, seizure free year!" We're doing really well because
of your support!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Love, Val |
During
this time of giving, please consider donating to
Greyhounds Only on behalf of your dog/s as a testimonial
of the joy he or she brings to you!

Hi
all! It's me, Val, back home for six weeks! I know
I promised an update sooner, but we've been really
busy here! Mom wanted to make sure I was truly "settled
in" before she gave you an update!
We have a lot to celebrate! As of 10/20/07 I have been seizure free
for FOUR months!!!!!! Mom, Aunt Lauren and Dr. Barnes have been adjusting
my medications based on the weight loss I had. When I first came home
I was very wobbly and fell down a lot. Now I am more stable and able
to jog with my room mates in the yard. I'm not as steady as your dog/s
are but I'm happy to be able to romp and sometimes "run" with
Bill and Frannie.
My wellness is truly based on your giving! I will never be able to
repay you for your continuous generosity. My expenses have never stopped
because I have to be on multiple medications to keep me stable and
healthy.
Please, keep me and the other hounds in need in your prayers!
I will see you at the reunion, November 11th!!!!!
Love always, Val

(click
on the pictures above to see all the detail!)
Many
of you may remember Erin Paige Williams from Val's
last birthday. As it would happen Erin and her family
felt led to donate to Doc's surgical procedures. Her
handmade card and donation was recieved on Val's 4th
birthday.
Erin,
thank you for remembering that Greyhounds Only needs
special people like you to help and support the work
we do. You are a wonderful girl and we can't wait to
see what the world has in store for you! Bless your
generous heart!
Mom
had the opportunity to speak to Erin this week. She
says that Erin is the most precious child. She loves
me and all Greyhounds. She wants to be an artist when
she grows up, or maybe a nurse like her Mom, Cynthia.
Personally, I think she needs to be a Vet because she
loves Greyhounds sooo much! Her Mom said that they
make a trip to Chicago to meet me! How special is that???
Erin
has no idea how special she was to Val and all of us!
We all need to take her lead and give from our hearts!
Thank
you Erin and your wonderful family,
Love,
Val

Look
at me in my Birthday hat!!!! Mom surprised me today
with Twinkies for the whole gang at Aunt Lauren's to
celebrate my special day! I also found out that my
two "special needs" buddies, Doc and Luke
have been adopted by two very special families. Congratulations
to everyone! It's a GREYT day!
I
included some more pictures below from my party! We
had a lot of fun!
Talk
to you soon!
Val

9/2/2007
Hi
all...it's me, Val again! I have many reasons to celebrate
my Birthday on September 4th. First, it's my Golden
Birthday. I will be 4 on the 4th. Mom always says that's
a VERY special Birthday! My brothers Dino and Billy
share that day with me, too. We still have a sister
racing in Florida, but hopefully she will join us soon
in Chicagoland!
Second, is that is looks like between Aunt Lauren, my doctors and Mom
my seizures seem to be under control. It is officially over 10 weeks
since my last episode, moons and all. My "cocktail" has been
adjusted along with a lower sodium kibble. I've lost a few pounds but
I'd rather be thin and seizure free! Also these recent changes have
decreased my need to "poop" so often, especially in my crate,
which was a BIG problem for me and my people! I feel so much better!
Third, it looks like I'm going home in two weeks to be reunited with
Mom and my original room mates. Mom needed a little extra time because
her Mother passed away on August 13th and she needed to be with her
two-legged family during her sad time. I hear that Mom doesn't have
to use crutches anymore and will finish her physical therapy in four
weeks. Then watch out! She's back running circles around the 5 of us!
My Aunt Lauren and Alexis have been so wonderful to me while I've been
with them. They have loved me like their very own. I will miss them!
Thank you!
I'm so grateful to all of you that have been following my life over
the past year and a half! I couldn't have gotten where I am today without
your help and prayers! I'll keep you posted on how my home coming goes!
Happy Birthday.....ME,
Val
A
note from Sue Gaiser, Val's "Foster Mom",
Val has been Greyhounds Only's "poster child" for quite some
time. Many of you have supported our efforts to keep him happy and
healthy. While he is in the forefront of our financial needs, there
are many other hounds that require funds for much needed surgeries
and extraordinary care. Please, consider donating to Greyhounds Only,
Inc. to help us have the ability to help these special hounds! Here
are some ways to raise funds for these fabulous hounds!
Make a personal contribution.
Start a Memorial fund for a person or pet. My Mom's fund has exceeded
$550.00 for the Mady Fund. The fund has a match of $1.00 for every
$3.00 so your contribution multiplies painlessly!
Instead of receiving gifts for special occasions, ask for donations
in your name.
Ask your employer to contribute to your charity. It's tax deductible
for them.
Donate proceeds from Garage/Estate Sales.
Be creative and keep Greyhounds Only and the "special needs" hounds
we rescue in your thoughts everyday!
Thank you for all you've done and will do!
Sue and Val :-)
7/9/2007
Hi
all....it's me, Val and Mom typing for me. Sorry it's
been soooo long!
You all know what happened on Mothers' Day to all of us. Our Mom is
progressing as the doctors say she should, but not fast enough for
her liking! All of my room mates have been able to return to her as
of today. She came to visit me yesterday at Aunt Lauren's. I know she
wants me home but is concerned that she is not strong enough yet to
take care of me should I have a cluster event. She starts her strength
training tomorrow and hopefully will be 100% in 4-6 weeks, and.....I
can go home.
Aunt Lauren has been "greyt", even though I had more episodes
than normal during my vacation. My cluster events have been traced
back to the change of the moon. Also, it was recently discovered that
my Potassium Bromide levels were too low for my weight gain. I'm up
to 85#, which was Mom's goal for me. I was skin and bones at 72# when
she got me. My meds have been adjusted and I escaped an event this
last full moon. Hopefully we are on the right track, balancing all
the details of my illness.
I did have one overnight at VCA several weeks ago when I experienced
5 seizures in an hour. So......I still need you!
I hope you enjoy the photo of me and Mom, brace and all at a recent
party we both attended.
Please, keep us all in your thoughts and prayers!

So,
it's been a while since there has been an update on
Val. On May 13th, Val suffered another seizure. At
that time, permanent foster mom Sue's other hounds
all "packed up" on Val - they were just too
interested in what was going on! Unfortunately, while
Sue was separating everybody, she lost her balance
and fell. She had to have surgery later in the week
to repair her broken tibia near the knee!
Val,
however, is fine, and he's in a temporary foster home
while Sue recovers. As are Frannie, Bill, Baby and
Foots - spread through a network of friends literally
within hours of Sue's accident. Sue Purdom (a.k.a.
Aunt Sue, from Doc's blog) is also temporarily filling
the foster coordinator role while Sue heals!
Here's
hoping Sue gets better soon! Please keep her in your
thoughts. Chris Schlentner has organized a "Well
Wishes" letter campaign - please consider sending
Sue a card or note to keep her spirits high! Thank
you for your support in wishing Sue gets better soon!
Thanks
to everyone who follows Val's progress and continues
to support this lovable pup.

Hi,
it's me again, Val! I'm soooo happy! It's nice enough
to go out and lay in the yard and run and play, chase
bunnies, squirrels and birds! What a difference a
year makes! I feel greyt enough and happy enough
to enjoy, "Spring"!
I'm
doing really well, but I'll keep you posted if anything
changes. Thanks!
Love, Val

Hi
all! I know I just wrote to you about my brother
Billy coming from Florida, but here I am again! Maybe
I just got too excited about seeing Billy, but I
had another bad morning. Mom keeps track of the times
for me, so at 4:20AM I had a seizure in my bed. I
think I must have caught my foot in my blankies because
something seemed to hurt and I cried. We then went
straight to the kitchen which feels safe and away
from my roommates. Baby and Foots still don't seem
to understand that I will be fine and they have no
need to worry about me. In the next hour I had 4
more episodes. They were under a minute long and
I was able to sit or lay comfortably through them.
We call them baby seizures. I did get two Valium
suppositories, which aren't fun for me or Mom, just
so you know! We did not go to VCA Aurora this time
because we're getting so good at knowing how well
I feel when I "wake up". Both of us were
glad to go back to bed at 5:30.
I'm
feeling just fine now! I did several laps around
the yard tonight. I heard that my Potassium Bromide
has been increased again to control the cluster events,
but I don't know what that means, so all is good
in my world. Thanks again for helping me! I still
need you!
Love,
Val
From
Sue:
As you may or may not know, Epilepsy is not always as difficult to
control as Val's condition. He has been on medication for nearly a
year and has not yet met any of the expected time frames necessary
to be considered safe. Cluster events are the most dangerous for his
brain. We have been extremely fortunate that Val's illness has not
caused him any dysfunction thus far! While he is happy and seems healthy
99% of the time, episodes like this morning are extremely serious to
his overall health, especially to his kidney and liver functions as
we increase the meds.
We continue to rely on all of you that follow Val's story to support
our efforts to keep him happy and healthy.
I am so happy to have Val here as a permanent fixture. He brings so
much joy to our home, maybe because I treasure EVERY healthy moment
with him. Some of the best moments are when he "comes out" of
an episode and I am the first thing he sees. . . and that tail starts
to wag, and his eyes are bright, not sullen and I know he is "back".
Please, hug, love and appreciate your healthy hounds and consider contributing
to our "hounds in need", Val, Doc and Luke!
Thank you!
Sue

I'm
soooo happy! I was reunited with my other brother,
Billy on April 1, 2007! No joke!!!!
Back in 2005 Dino and I were sent to the Kennel for adoption, but Billy
went away to a place called Florida to race up until just recently.
Mom kept telling me that there were a lot of people trying to get Billy
back here to be with us. I heard that he had some injuries, but he
kept racing. I'm happy to say that he is happy, healthy and back home
with Dino and me! Hopefully, the three of us will have a reunion soon.
Dino was adopted by Margie Williams and you all know my story!
The most wonderful news is that Billy already has a forever home. As
Greyhound Karma would happen, some friends of Mom's called her looking
for a second dog. Their Amy had stayed here with Mom for a week, before
I came. The short story is that Amy and her family came to meet Billy
today, too and........as Mom would say, "It's a match made in
heaven"!
I'm doing fine, but just had to share the greyt news about Billy! Do
you see the family resemblance?
Thanks for listening!
Love,
Val

It's
been a while since you heard from me. That usually
means that I'm fine! And I am, now! Before I fill
you in on my last couple of weeks, I want to celebrate
an anniversary! It's hard to believe that one year
ago, on March 6th, I came to my forever home. None
of you knew that I was so sick and that all of you
would come to my aid and help make me better. We
didn't know that Greyhound lovers around the world
would come forward for me and support the expenses
of my illness. You made a differences in my life
and wellness. Thank you for helping me!
I did have a set back on February 19th. At 3:20am I had a Gran Mal
seizure to be followed by 4 more in a 45 minute period. At 4:00 I was
off to VCA Aurora for another sleep over. I then had another seizure
in the parking lot. Thank goodness the vet techs were waiting for me
and whisked me away to feel better. My meds have been increased again,
and they say I'm doing fine.
I saw another doctor a week later to make sure I was absorbing my food
properly and he says that I'm perfect in that department. Yippee!!!
Please, check out Doc's page. He's had
a rough go of it the last couple of weeks, too. He's my buddy and needs
your support as much as I do! Thank you all! -- Val

Happy "Val"entine's
Day! Hey..... that's part of my name? It
must be because of all the love you have
shared with me!
I just wanted to give you a quick update on my health! I
still haven't had a seizure since Dec. 24th. I'm feeling
pretty good except for this really cold stuff outside. I'm
not happy going out with all the white, fluffy surface. I
almost fell down a few times because my paws were so cold.
Make sure you keep an eye out for your pups feet too!
It must be a special time because my room mate, Baby has
finally accepted me. She was very upset when ever I would
have an episode, but just last night she cuddled with me
for the first time and made me feel like I was her "Val"entine!
Isn't she cute?
Hug each other for me and share the love I feel everyday
because YOU helped me stay healthy and happy!
Love,
Val

Hi
everyone! I'm doing fine for now! My new diet and
supplements seem to be doing the trick. While my
condition seems to be under control for now, the
costs to keep me healthy never stop! I'm forever
greatful to all of you for keeping me heathy and
happy! Please, help out my friend Doc,
too! He needs to get well and find his forever home!

Happy
Holidays!!
I
had hoped to share this with
you sooner, but things have
been really busy around here
lately. Mom has been preparing
for "Christmas",
whatever that is! I hear
her thanking people for all
that they do for Greyhounds
Only, my Greyhound buddies,
and me. Her face gets wet
a lot from her eyes, but
she always gives me a BIG
hug then, so keep her face
wet for me, OK!
On Christmas Eve morning I did have another episode. I'm
ok! It was very minimal. I didn't even have to lay down.
I was able to sit with Mom's help and I felt fine in just
a few minutes. I had a great breakfast and enjoyed the rest
of the day getting ready for the celebration! Mom was so
glad I didn't have to spend the holiday at the vet again!
On Christmas day I got a special gift, a red rubber thing
filled with some really yummy brown, sticky stuff called
peanut butter. FYI....I wore the ears to make "her" happy!
I
hope Christmas comes everyday!
Actually,
it has for me, because many of you gave
to help me get better! Mom says there is
no better gift, than the gift of life and
health. Thank you to those that have given
to Greyhounds Only to not only help me,
but to help my "friends" that
need forever homes. We rely on you "two-leggeds" to
speak for us, protect us, and love us!
Love,
Val

A
note from Sue Gaiser
Foster Coordinator and Val's Mom
Greyhounds Only, Inc.
In
2006 Greyhounds Only adopted over 150 retired racing
Greyhounds, a record breaker. If it were not for
the support from many of you we could not have done
the work we did to get this many dogs in their forever
homes, including Val. Please, consider making Greyhounds
Only, Inc. your charitable contribution. They can't
speak for themselves on the track. We need to do
it for them! And we WILL!!!!!!!!!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping Greyhounds Only
care for Val's every need and for the gifts that keep us as an organization
to stretch to save more racers!
I wish you all the healthiest and happiest 2007!

Val
had his 6 month check up on November 28th. Everything
appeared to be fine. He had been seizure free for
8 weeks and looked greyt! By the way, on a positive
note.....two of the vet techs came forward to be
foster parents for GO, Inc. at that visit. Val continues
to help his brothers and sisters coming off the track!
On November 30th at 2:20AM he had a petite mal seizure which lasted
under a minute, only to be followed by 3 more within 30 minutes. Even
though all 4 were minimal compared to his previous history, cluster
events are not acceptable, so off to VCA Aurora he and I went at 3AM.
He had to stay at his 2nd favorite place for a sleepover!
He received a Valium IV and his Phenobarbital was increased to 6, instead
of 4 tablets a day. This increase seems to make him less stable on
his feet and more lethargic.
Dr. Barnes agreed that he may be helped by Acupuncture and Chiropractic
measures, so Val met Dr. Hanover in Cary, IL on Saturday! Val is now
on a "grain free" diet and several supplements to promote
healthy brain function and blood flow, along with some anxiety extras!
He will also get a Michigan State University full thyroid panel done
on December 16th to diagnose any auto immune deficiency.
While Val is permanently staying with me, his expenses still rely on
your generous contributions. Greyhounds Only has placed nearly 150
dogs in 2006. Thankfully, none of them have had the continuous serious
illness that Val experiences. Keep him in your thoughts while you decide
where to donate during the holiday season of giving!

Today
Val went for his 6 month neurological recheck and
blood work for liver and kidney values. While we
won't have the blood test results for several days,
Dr. Barnes was very impressed with Val's "new" happy
go lucky personality! She did comment about his gait,
which is different from most Greyhounds. We discussed
how he sometimes gets his front feet crossed and
doesn't know what to do, so I uncross them for him.
She has suggested Acupuncture and Chiropractic measures.
It has been proven that some dogs have been able
to lower their seizure meds after these methods.
I have an appointment with a well respected vet to
perform these treatments for Val. I'm also happy
to announce that he has gained 3.5 pounds with his
new high calorie, low volume diet! We need 6 more
pounds on him and I'll be happy!
In addition, Val's reputation and web page has prompted two of the
vet techs at VCA Aurora to consider fostering for Greyhounds Only!
Now he is able to give back to other hounds in need. We are coming
full circle! It looks like he is now able to give back what so many
of you gave so freely to him!
Help more Greyhounds!

Sue
A
Note from Val, too!
It's
Thanksgiving Eve and my foster mom is busy preparing
for a "big day" that I've never experienced
before. I hear her talking to people on the phone
telling them how much she appreciates them. I hear
her say that she is concerned about my weight and
she is trying to find ways to put pounds on me without
adding volume because I potty in my crate if I eat
too much! She's giving me some really good stuff
to make me "fat", like beef liver, kidneys,
hearts, cottage cheese, peanut butter, eggs, etc.
I'm really happy, but too skinny according to her!
I'm going to see my favorite doctor, Dr. Barnes on Tuesday to make
sure that my blood levels are in place and to discuss a new diet and
some alternative options for my condition. I've been seizure free for
more than 7 weeks! I feel so good!
I've been hearing that I need to be "thankful" this time
of year. So I need to let you know that I'm "thankful" because
I know that Sue, my foster mom has said that I'm NEVER leaving her.
Because of your generous contributions to me, she is able to let me
stay here in my "forever" home as a permanent foster! I've
never felt like a "foster" for one minute! We have been through
so much together, I can't imagine living with anyone else but her and
my roommates, Frannie, Bill, Baby, Foots, and of course the cats.
Thank you for helping me! Please watch for my story in "The Skinny".
I hope that it will help more dogs like me. I soon will be moving to
another page of my own to support other hounds in need. So, watch for
my postings and how you can equally be as kind to my other Greyhound
family members!!! You've been so generous!
My holidays will be happy because of you!
Love,
Val

Dear
Val "followers". It's been a while since
you had an update. But, our web person has been moving.
It appears we're up and running again!
I'm
writing this to let you all know that Val had another
seizure at 4:30AM on Thursday, October 12th! He was
sound asleep. It was a 1-2 minute petite mal, which
I may have slept through if Baby and Foots hadn't
run to see what was wrong. They become very agitated
when he's in an episode. Anyway, the seizure didn't
concern me, even though it's only 4 1/2 weeks since
the last one, but it took him nearly 40 minutes to
get his legs back. Imagine a colt taking it's first
steps. Of course, I notified Dr. Barnes at VCA. She
doesn't seem concerned and doesn't believe we need
to alter his meds at this point.
If environment plays any role in this, the only changes were the weather,
which he LOVES, and that I had him microchipped last Saturday. Dunno!
He's back to his happy, goofy self. I just wanted to keep you posted!
And the NGA papers are on their way to me to send to his owner. We
are able to register him to GO, Inc., FYI! -- Sue

While
many of you celebrated Val's birthday by
sending cards and well wishes, their is
a special little girl, named Erin from
Pennsylvania that found Val's page. She
had the heart to send him this personalized
birthday card. Through the words of this
precious child, I have been touched and
humbled by the love that continues to support
our special boy! Thank you, Erin! You're
one "GREYT" person!
Thanks
to all of you!

Val had a "greyt" birthday! Thanks to those of you
that sent him a card or e-mail message! He shared his day with
his littermate, Dino and many other Greyhound friends! While
I was on vacation last week, Val did have a petite mal seizure.
The good news is that we are at double the acceptable time
and there was only one! Remember, Dr. Barnes was hoping for
one in 6 weeks and no cluster events. He has succeeded in making
way past the minimums! No one knows what triggered this event,
if anything. But it was minimal, and he is happy to be back
with all of his room mates! I want to thank Lauren Sicherman
for taking on the huge responsibility of Val and Baby during
my vacation! I didn't worry for one moment about their care
and her love for them!
Here is a photo of Val enjoying a beef bone to celebrate a
year of trials and celebrations!
Continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers!

Hi
all! Nine weeks and two days and counting! Mr. Val
is doing really well, except for a yeast infection
in both ears. He continues to emerge from his foggy
state and become more of a Greyhound everyday. He
has received another large donation this past week,
which covered his blood work and ear meds. Thank
you!
He does have a potty issue in his crate, but it seems to be better
when I limit his morning meal and use K-9 Aromatic's Fear and Anxiety
oil before I go to work.
Last Friday I had the pleasure of having lunch with Gen from Compassion
for Greyhounds. She had given me so much invaluable information and
guidance early on with suggestions on how to deal with seizure dogs.
What a Greyhound love fest we had!!!!! It was as if we had know each
other all of our lives. Love you, Gen!!!!
Thank you Val, for bringing all of us together! Please, continue to
keep Val in your thoughts and prayers!- Sue
Happy
Birthday, Val!
Many
months ago Val had a very dismal future.
He had been in 4 foster homes and 2 adoptive
homes that failed because of his illness.
I'm happy to say that he is progressing
very nicely, nine weeks and three days
with no episodes. Your gifts have made
him a happy healthy pup!
His third birthday is Monday, 9/4/06, Labor Day. He will be
celebrating his "special" day with his sibling, San
Bernadino, (Dino). Treats and joy will abound for the successful
transformation of this special pup.
Please help us celebrate his future by sending him a card that
lets him know how much all of you love him and support his
efforts to get even better. I will read each and every one
to him....promise!!!!
Please send your wishes to:

Hi
all! It is August 8th and Val has been
seizure free for 6 weeks and one day. It
appears that his meds are doing the trick.
He has become a totally different pup.
Last night he played with a squeaky toy
for the first time on his 6 week anniversary.
What a joy to observe. He continues to
romp and play like a colt and is so un-greyhound
like, but happy none the less. I wish that
all of you could see the transformation
from the sullen, sad, sick boy he was to
now. It is because all of you helped him
heal. Thank you!
Funds
are still needed and are still coming in.
He has touched so many hearts and represents
why we, as Greyhound lovers do what we
do! No thank you is big enough!
Hug
your healthy hounds and savor each day
with them!

It's
been nearly 3 weeks since Val's last update, and
in this case, no news is GREYT news! There have been
no seizure episodes of any kind since the Phenobarbital
dose was doubled. We is now on a liquid Bromide which
seems to agree with him better. What I mean is that,
he is more consistent in his behavior. The capsules
tended to make him pretty dopey for several hours
after taking them. He seems to be gaining more energy
everyday and acting more like a Greyhound puppy
than ever, like the day he played Full Back and mom
was the Quarter Back. He came barreling at me after
a potty break. I expected him to weave at the last
minute, but NO......hit me broad side! We're working
on that now! My other hounds continue to watch after
him and occasionally scold him when plays "football" with
them. It is a sight to behold! Thank you for continued
support and thoughts! I feel you with us everyday
and am eternally greytful for your generous spirits!
-- Sue
6/27/06
While
I had hoped that I would not be writing this quite
so soon, Val did have an episode last night, Monday,
June, 26th. I'm content to say that the seizures,
while clustered were FAR less dramatic and less lengthy,
only lasting under a minute each. However, because
there were three in under a 45 minute period, he
did need to have a "sleep over" at VCA
Aurora. He had one more after I left him there, but
no more since. He acted like it was his second home.
They have a special pillow for him during his visits,
so he is not crated. What greyt people! Anyway, we
have adjusted his meds to hopefully lengthen the
time between even more. The good news is that the
seizures were minimal compared to his previous events
and not a danger to him. Dr. Barnes has given me
additional meds to use during another cluster event
to teach his brain not to cluster.
Because of you, Val's care has not put a burden on our organization
so we can help more retired racing Greyhounds. Our Board met on Sunday,
Val was present, and the gratitude for your generousity was endless.
I cried, of course! Val has brought us all together, from around the
world to celebrate what we all do on a daily basis. He belongs to all
of you and he thanks you for helping him be free in so many ways. His
fight is not over, so continue to share his story with those you know
that would like to be part of his new family! -- Sue
6/21/06
Hi
all of you Val watchers! It's been two full weeks
since his last traumatic episode. In some ways, it
feels like a year, but I'm happy to report that Val
is doing wonderfully. He has "come out" of
his drugged state and for the first time since I've
had him (3 1/2 months) he is acting like a Greyhound
puppy. Monday he took three laps around the yard,
which he has NEVER done even prior to his relapse.
It was a sight to behold. Of course, tears of joy
streamed freely. This ritual has continued every
night this week. He's happy and free to run!
Thanks
to all of you, he's on the right road to health and
happiness. Every day that he is seizure free is a
blessing! Keep him in your thoughts and prayers!
He's such a "greyt" boy! I'm so fortunate
to have him and YOU in my life! More later! -- Sue
6/17/06
Many
of you know that RGA, WI had pledged the
proceeds of their brat (as in bratwurst)
sale to Val. RGA services a different geographical
area in Wisconsin than Greyhounds Only, and
they need the funds as much as we do to operate
their rescue efforts... but, they chose to
help Val instead of helping themselves! RGA's
contribution to Val's fund is the single
largest donation to date, $943.31. There
are no words to express the gratitude that
we have for their help and unselfish act.
Thank you RGA, and your board members that
sacrificed these funds for a "hound
in need". We are confident that your
generosity will bless your organization and
your hounds without homes. We are partners
in the effort to find forever, loving homes
for our precious Greyhounds.
Val is progressing as he should. No episodes, thus far! I'll
keep you posted on "our" boy! -- Sue

The
sleeping giant awakens....well almost. Tonight Val
ran in the yard for the first time since his hospitalization.
My Alpha boy Bill decided it was time to test Val's
legs. It was wonderful and scary all at the same
time. Val slipped rounding the first turn, but didn't
skip a beat, my heart did, but not Val. They did
a couple of short laps and I just had to say "enough".....for
now! His mind and body is "coming back".
Your generosity continues as even more donations arrive daily. It's
been a week since Val's crisis and I have learned more about Val, myself
and the kind spirits of "two-leggeds". I try to look for
the silver lining in all of life's adversities, but never thought that
I would be able to see so much goodness and hope in this desperate
situation with Val. What a "greyt" family to belong to!
Out goal is 6 weeks without a seizure, so keep your thoughts on that!
Thank you! -- Sue

and Val before leaving the Vet's office on
June 11th. |
6/13/06
It's
been nearly 48 hours since Val came home. He is still
a bit wobbly from the medication, but I see progress.
My guys have accepted his disability and try to help
him when they can. He's eating, etc. as he should.
No further episodes as of yet. He did "potty" in
his crate today, but the Vet and I believe that it
is lack of exercise and not a seizure. There was
no evidence of stress or disruption with his blankets
or foam remnants on his crate.
While I don't want to repeat myself, every day that passes shows me
how wonderful you all are. The donations have continued to flow. Hold
on to your shorts here, because we have received donations from as
far away as Vancouver and England, not to mention from all across the
United States for this precious boy! The wonder of the Internet. Thank
you to all of you that forwarded one simple e-mail to every Greyhound
Lover you knew. It has reached the world! Unbelievable!!!!!!
No donation is too small. We have received every imaginable amount.
But I must express my deepest appreciation to Dr. Kim Ogden, Animal
Communicator, for sending the largest personal donation to date. She
has been a personal "shoulder to cry on" for me, and a constant
spiritual friend for Val. Please, visit her website, www.kimogden.com.
I appreciate her insight and generous spirit! Thank you Dr. Kim from
the bottom of my heart, and Val's!
We also received a call today from The Wisconsin Gaming Department
to donate for Val. What is it about this dog? Whatever....it's GREYT!!!!!!!!
I love you, even if I don't know you! Thank you from the bottom of
my heart! Greyhounds Only is so appreciative of your contributions
to help this fabulous baby boy!
A
note from foster mom Sue Gaiser (6/11/06)
I
have to acknowledge the greyt outpouring of love
and financial support that so many of you gave freely
and unselfishly.
I
had sent the original e-mail to my immediate Greyhounds
Only family and "sister" organizations.
The response was overwhelming. I started hearing
from folks almost immediately offering help in many
ways: placing donation jars on their desk, organizing
raffles, sending e-mail pleas to clients/vendors,
posting auctions, discounting drugs, and of course
sending donations by check or PayPal.
I
was contacted just this morning (6/11/06) that RGA
is donating the profit from their Brat sale next
Saturday and matching the sale up to $250.00. I was
beyond words and emotions!
Apart
from the financial donations many of you have given
emotional support, prayers and alternative options
for Val. Among you, I have been introduced to "Gen" with
Compassion for Greyhounds, through Sharon Palm. Gen
specializes in seizure dogs and has been communicating
with me electronically. We will be talking soon to
make sure I am best prepared to help Val with his
special needs.
Gratitude
abounds here! Please, all of you know how humbled
I am on behalf of Val for your wonderful gifts!
6/11/06
Val
came home this morning and is currently resting comfortably.
Just this past Monday and Tuesday, Val had been evaluated
for a firm diagnosis for his seizures. He had received
the normal blood work, x-rays, MRI and Spinal Tap.
The worst diagnosis were eliminated and left us with
idiopathic epilepsy. Wednesday night was when the
cluster event occurred and he was taken back to the
vet, prompting the initial e-mail. Thursday, Dr.
Barnes, Val's neurologist from VCA Aurora told me
that there was brain no damage caused by the lengthy
seizure episode. She prescribed a "loading" of
Potassium Bromide, which means he would be given
3 months worth over a 3 day period to "control" the
cluster events and minimize the severity of each
episode. He was kept there so he could be monitored
and receive his therapy. Also, the "loading" process
made him very wobbly, like a drunken sailor, so it
was just plain safer for him to be there. Sue was
able to visit him daily and even took her Alpha male
Bill for a visit. They greeted each other with happy
tail, kisses and even a head lay on Bill's back.
It was precious! We also must mention the tender
loving care VCA gave to our boy. We felt like family.
Sue highly recommend this wonderful facility! They
also discounted the fees to help Val!
6/8/2006
Val
had 4 seizures yesterday evening in the span of 15
minutes, the final one lasting more than seven minutes.
He went to the emergency veterinary hospital, where
he remained for overnight observation. A few days
ago, Val completed a comprehensive medical exam that
eliminated tumors and encephalitis. The final diagnosis
is epilepsy.
As
of yesterday, we have passed the $3000 we anticipated
his medical bills to be. At two years of age, this
sweet, handsome boy deserves so much more out of
life. Any donation
you can make would be appreciated and
help us to afford his medical care until we can find
him his loving forever home.

Val
is a beautiful and sweet two year old greyhound.
This handsome boy thought he had found his forever
family, but three weeks after he was adopted, he
began having seizures. The family relinquished Val
back to Greyhounds Only based on this problem.
After
his family returned him, Val moved in with his new
foster mom, Sue, and her four other greyhounds. He
didn't have any seizures while with Sue for nearly
four weeks, and was successfully re-adopted, only
to suffer seizures within the first 12 hours of his
adoption. Once returned to Sue's home again, he was
temporarily seizure free for a number of weeks. He
relapsed again, however, and was placed on medication
to control the seizures, although it has not completely
eliminated them.
At
this point, Greyhounds Only is not sure if his issues
are metabolic or environmental. We need to evaluate
him thoroughly before he is adopted to his forever
home. His medical bills could exceed $3,000.00. He
is only two years old and needs to be diagnosed before
he is adopted. If you could help him get home, he
would appreciate it! Any size donation would get
him back to better health and a forever home!
