volunteer opportunities
Greyhounds Only depends on volunteers to pull off all that magic that we do. We’re always looking for people to pitch in. We know that everyone is busy, but a bit of your spare time can help more than you can imagine! Some of the opportunities are listed below. Email volunteer@greyhoundsonly.com if you’d like to help. We will find you the right person to talk to so you can start volunteering!
-
meet and greets
No training required. Get out for one to four hours at a pet store to show off your baby every month or so. You get to meet other folks and teach patrons about how “greyt” greyhounds are! The dogs have a ball, get out to meet and socialize, and when you get home, they are pooped! See the website calendar for locations convenient to you.
-
Creative Talents
If you have an artistic flair, we need graphic design assistance, writing, editing, folks with computer literacy (Photoshop, Excel, social media, Petfinder, eBay, etc.), photography, videography, etc.
-
Reunion Committee
It takes a committee to plan the annual Reunion, GO's largest fundraising event. It happens in the fall and it takes a lot of planning all year. If you have any ideas or want to help out, let us know!
-
Merchandising
For our dog toys we can always use people to cut patterns, stuff toys, and then hand sew them closed. We provide the materials and training! Closer to our large events we can use help pricing, packing, and inventorying merchandise. We can always use help to transport, set up, run, and tear down the merchandise booth at various events around Chicagoland.
-
Summer festivals/art fairs
No training required. Two to four hours at an art fair to show off your hound. Guaranteed to make your greyhound happy and tired and lets you meet some fun people along the way!
-
Fundraising / Grant Writing
If grant research, sending letters to corporations, telephone follow-up or hosting/organizing events is up your alley, let us know. This is the bread and butter of how we stay afloat and keep the adoption fees reasonable so more greyhounds can get into more homes.
-
Greyhound Transport
Often we need dogs transported to the vet, a foster home, or even another kennel. Let us know if you can be available for this unselfish task! In many instances this could be more important than you realize. We need you!
-
Kennel Day Assistants
The training required will take a day at one of our kennels. Volunteers will go out to the kennel to meet prospective adoptive families and show off the new pups. Observation, communication and marketing skills are needed for this one. If those skills don’t come easy, you can just walk and play with kennel dogs! They need some love until they’re adopted!
